The Research and Development Laboratory Technician provides support to the Chemists / Engineers in the research and development process leading to the creation of coating products.- Assist in the design of experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.- Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.- Identify and suggest improvements in methods.- Producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small/pilot scale equipment and control systems utilizing a variety of techniques.- Documenting findings and communicating results.- Makes suggestions on path forward and contributes to formulating work plans and managing daily workflow.- Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.- Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.- Maintain a safe working environment.- Preparation and evaluation of coating formulations including electro-coat, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various spray equipment.- Accurately running and recording test results for all coatings formulations.- Interpretation and communication of test results using computer based systems.- Documentation of experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, Excel.- Safely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.- Handling multiple tasks under strict time constraints.

The Quality Technician is responsible for interpreting and applying a variety of technical laboratory procedures to perform tests and accurately record results to ensure the highest quality product is being produced and delivered to the customer. - Plans and organizes work to accomplish assigned job for maximum safety and efficiency - Troubleshoots and repairs relatively specialized equipment throughout the plant. - Safely performs electrical troubleshooting on equipment, and electrical repairs if necessary - Safely inspects machinery and equipment while in operation for proper safeguarding, diagnosing faulty operation, making adjustments or repairs as necessary to keep the equipment in safe operating condition - Removes from service those machines which require major repairs, revisions or additions to machinery and reinstalls, including proper safeguarding - Operates, maintains, inspects, lubricates, and repairs equipment as necessary - Repairs systems under emergency conditions in order to maintain plant operations - Cuts, drills, taps, files, grinds, and fits all types of metal for fabrication, alterations, or repair to machines, building equipment, jigs and fixtures - Uses hand and power tools of all kinds and a variety of measuring and testing instruments in a safe manner - Completes work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed utilizing a computerized maintenance management system - Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements as necessary- May operate mobile equipment, including fork lifts, manlift, crane, and carts - Works with other maintenance employees by performing any duties to get equipment back into operation in minimum time
Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a BS/MS level Scientist/Sr Scientist/Principal Scientist supporting the Industrial technology group in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The Scientist will advance our fundamental understanding of coatings technology in support of Axalta’s growth initiatives. This includes new product development and product modifications to improve coating performance and/or reduce cost while improving efficiency during manufacturing and application. This Scientist reports to the Technology Leader located in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. - Leads technical programs related to product development and customer support in a team environment.- Has a fundamental understanding of coatings technology including formulation of WB and SB coatings in 1K and 2K systems.- Applies deep knowledge of structure/property relationships for resins, crosslinkers, additives, and pigments.- Works as an active member of cross functional project teams to ensure alignment with initial project definition with product management team, scale-up with Manufacturing including establishment of test methods and specifications, optimization of performance at the customer site, and ongoing customer technical support. - Applies statistical methods to investigate problems and analyze results, including DOE. - Organize objectives, set milestones, and deliver results against aggressive timelines.- Interact with others in R&D and/or Sales and Marketing to propose new projects targeted to provide growth opportunities in traditional and adjacent markets. #LI-GM1
