Primary Responsibilities

The Technical Service Manager will be responsible for managing all programs and priorities to promote growth and retention of assigned account. This job is located in Lordstown, Ohio at a customer location.

  • Managing and training Technical Services Specialists so that the business can achieve a consistently high quality of support to customers.
  • Supports and develops input on specific target goals for regional customer accounts, specifically selling expenses, inventory, customer demand forecast and managing accounts receivables.
  • Serves in a technical advisory capacity to customers including during trials and launches. Providing technical direction and assistance to customers on the use of product lines; serves as an expert in a single technology or applies a working knowledge of multiple technologies and may involve multiple sites.
  • Manage relationships with both manufacturing and engineering at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot & resolve painting issues and problems.
  • Communicate with appropriate Axalta departments for daily updates on paint consumption, invoices, inventory, and paint ordering.
  • Maintain build data, pricing and take rate data in Campfire.
  • Define VMI requirements and seek VMI improvement opportunities to implement.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly plant quality reports for customers as well as lead customer quality investigations.
  • Prepare and place customer product orders; successfully manage onsite inventory and resolve immediate customer supply issues.
  • Support and manage customer product approvals.
  • Support and manage PDCA meetings and processes.
  • Support customer projects (LWRs, FWRs, EPMs).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering or other applied sciences curriculum preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least five (5+) years of Technical Service or very related experience in the coatings industry.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Expertise with coatings application equipment is highly preferred.
  • The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of technical (lab, research, etc.) principles and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while handling multiple projects at any given time.
  • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applications preferred.
