Axalta operates its business in two operating segments: Performance Coatings and Transportation Coatings, serving four end markets, including:  Refinish, Industrial, Light Vehicle and Commercial Vehicle, across the following four regions: North America, EMEA, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Primary Responsibilities

The HR Manager will play a pinnacle role as a key HR liaison for the North America Refinish business. Axalta’s North America Refinish business segment is comprised of over 600 commercial-focused professionals including Marketing, Product Management, Customer Service & Training, and Field Sales professionals throughout the U.S. & Canada. This role will provide a broad range of strategic HR support in order to achieve the segment’s business objectives, including talent acquisition, organizational development, employee relations, and employee engagement.

She/he will need to have strong business literacy about the business unit’s financial position, mid-range plans, culture, and competition to ensure the HR strategy can support and drive the business goals.

  • Translate business strategy and needs in order to develop and facilitate effective HR strategies to enable the organization to thrive in change, and transform those strategies into an actionable plan to ensure strong execution & implementation.
  • Be an engaged agent in shaping the Axalta culture.
  • Understand the company’s business and strategy in order to proactively contribute to business decisions through analytical & fact-based decision-making & recommendations.
  • Drive commercial excellence and effectiveness through strategic sales compensation planning and benchmarking.
  • Lead organizational change & improvements by working with management to ensure organizational structures are set up to improve both individual and organizational performance, aligned with short and long-term business strategy. This will require strong organizational design skills, as well as solid knowledge across talent acquisition, succession planning and employee development.
  • Make culture change a business priority, translating desired culture into specific employee and managerial behaviors. Actively identify gaps as well as propose and implement changes as necessary to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Partner with business leaders to cultivate diverse leadership, talent, and technical capability in the business.
  • Coach and develop managers and employees (via group and one-on-one settings) on various HR-related issues to support leadership development, business decision-making capabilities, strengthen human resources knowledge, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Lead and support leadership in driving succession planning processes for key talent and critical hiring not only for immediate needs, but also looking to medium-long term needs.
  • Identify potential employee relations issues, offer guidance, and provide strategic initiatives to promote a productive, positive and engaged workforce.




Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated a progressive human resources background, and have experience interacting and influencing at all levels throughout an organization, especially with senior leadership levels in the business.
  • Proven experience and capabilities in all areas of technical human resources with a strong focus on compensation design & management, talent management & development, talent acquisition, employee relations, organizational design & effectiveness, and sales effectiveness.
  • A track record making the organizations where she/he has worked better business environments with improved business results due to their strong collaboration and execution skills, and having a close pulse on the organization through direct day-to-day involvement in leading the people aspects of the business.
  • Experience supporting a remote, commercial organization.
  • Experience providing human resources management support in a highly matrixed environment to remotely located associates.
  • Ability to travel frequently (20-30%) in order to meet with internal partners and external.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be comfortable with operating at both a strategic-level and tactical-level to take something from idea/strategy conception through to full implementation & execution.
  • Must be able to thrive in an ambiguous work environment and being able to drive process development and improvements.
  • Outstanding business acumen with strong analytical/metrics capabilities.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint to translate HR Analytics into compelling summaries and recommendations.
  • Must be process-driven.
  • Must have extremely strong time management skills, and have proven experience successfully working in a fast-paced work environment & lean organization where having high productivity (without sacrificing quality & accuracy) is critical.
  • Understand the dimensions of a healthy and vibrant culture from having served as part of world-class organizations.
  • Strong business-orientation with experience in organization development and change leadership.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of learning agility.
  • Experience in high-growth organizations, ideally building HR systems and processes in that environment.
